Anyone have a recipe for the Oskar Blues IPA that came out about 2 years ago?
I never tasted it but it has good reviews and should be a bit different than your run of the mill IPA. I have all the hops here so that's why I'm interested in brewing it.
Ella, Galaxy, topaz etc.

Thanks!

Nobody?
Are Oskar Blues known for being generous with sharing recipe information if you drop them a mail?

I can't find any clone recipes, but besides the hops the website description mentions use of "malt barley" (duh) and red wheat in the grist with 70 IBUs and 6.43% ABV. I'd probably use a 80/20 blend of Pale Ale malt and red wheat malt as the grist, shoot for that ABV, and arrange hops in a way that gets those IBUs and delivers a good IPA hop character. Neutral American ale yeast. It'll get you close, and will certainly produce a good beer regardless of how close it is to the original.

Thanks, sounds like a solid approach.

I can't imagine they use one of the Aussie hops for bittering so I'll try Magnum or Nugget at 60 min to get about 35 IBUs and then 10 min, 5 min and whirlpool with a blend of the mentioned hops to get it to 70 IBUs. Then 1 oz of each in the dry hop or maybe a little less Galaxy as it is the most potent.

Will be something to try in the Fall.
Maybe before then more info will become available :fro:

Never had it?! It is excellent for sure. Good luck cloning it!!

No I live in Europe so as far as I am aware it's not available here :(
Or if it is, it probably had a hard time getting here and be a shadow of it's original glory.

I was in NYC a few weeks ago but only discovered this beer a few days ago so I didn't try to seek it out.

I did however manage to go through a lot on my list of great American beers I wanted to try :rockin:

I should be in Denver in about 2 years so I'll try Oskar Blues IPA then for sure, if it's still available :)

Hey there, just had Oskar Blues IPA at a big event of 50 US beers & this was the best i tried. Wanna try a clone. Have u had any success with it? Cheers

85% pils 13% red wheat 2% dextrose & the mentioned hops should get you close.
Small FWH & pile hops into flameout & dry hop.
I find it similar to wicked weeds pernicious if you find that recipe.

Sounds like a solid plan.
I did put together a draft recipe but need to check the hop additions again. Was thinking of equal amounts of the majority of the hops but cut the galaxy in half as it might overpower the others. Also include a 5 or 10 min addition of each hop to get some flavour. Will also have to sub or leave out the enigma. I have too many other hops to justify buying more. Maybe el Dorado, calypso, mosaic or belma.

So I finally go to try the original.
Bought a 355ml can if for 3.99 euros in Hamburg.
That's about $4.5  but I just had to try it :)
Took a few sips to get used to it because I bought 5 other IPAs but it grew on me, quite nice.
Probably much better after not traveling over the Atlantic.
I have Galaxy, Topaz and Vic Secret getting old in the freezer so my next brew will be this but subbing the enigma with something else.

will probably report back in December or January coz I have 250 bottle of other beers to drink first :p

I tried the oskar blues on draft at another event here at the weekend. Definietely has given me the inspiration to make my own. I found a few wicked weeds pernicious recipes but seem very different from the hops the oskar blues website gives, so i've just ordered the enigma and topaz hops from Oz, for my mate to send over, as we cant get them here. I'll let u guys know how it turns out.

I just put together a recipe for 14 litres (approx. 3.5 gallons)
I cant get red wheat here so will use pale.
I will also sub the Enigma with El Dorado because it's what I have.
For my whirlpool I usually cool down to 70oC and whirlpool for about 45 min including draining/filtering the Wort from the electric kettle.
Adding it as a 10 or 15 min whirlpool in BeerSmith usually give a good approximation.

Very difficult to keep about 70 IBUs with all these high alpha hops.

Did anyone brew this yet?

I still didn’t get around to it but still want to do it sometime between now and the end of the summer.

Did another check on the internet to see if there were any recipes posted somewhere and discovered that BYO did a recipe for it.

I don’t have a membership can someone post it here?

Even if it’s only the hop schedule that would help.

Great, thanks!

Think I'll brew this sometime this year but will sub Nelson in for the Enigma or if I want to keep it all Aussie then Topaz.
Their brewery site only mentions red wheat and pale malt but a dash of caramalt might do no harm.
However I'll probably leave it out because I only have European Pale Ale malt which is a bit more malty than American Pale Malt anyway.
I will probably go a bit heavier on the late and dry hops too

My Summer brews are already planned so I'll try fit this in for September sometime.
