On most burners, the rings and cross bars are flush with eachother. So the pot sits flush on the burner, but then the flames hit the pot and just bounce back down. I grinded down the rings so the pot sits on the cross bars but not the rings. So the flame doesn't just bounce right back down, it has somewhere to go. When the flame hits the pot it goes out and stays even with the bottom of the pot. It is not that difficult to do if you have fairly decent skills working with metal.
