    Soup

Because the nights have been chilly and rainy my wife makes a pot of soup every 2 or 3 days with whatever veggies she finds in the fridge or freezer that may not be pretty but are great in soup.

    Favorite of experienced brewers.

Currently I am sitting on my porch in France drinking eau de vie (water of life) that my father in law made at least 50 years ago.

Gotta check the spelling. There's no e in Scotch whisky. In France bourbon comes from USA, whisky is European, even French whisky.

    Favorite of experienced brewers.

I've been brewing for 32 years now and have yet to find an absolute favorite. I've brewed UK styles like bitters, browns, porters and stouts I love them all. A brown I brewed made it to the finals of a big competition. I've brewed Belgians: quads, blindes, sours. I won a best of show with a...

    What are you drinking now?

I bought some French beers I like but a friend dropped by with a couple of bottles of 2015 locsl red wine, so the beer remains untouched. Then my wife cooked a chicken dish that requires half a cup of white wine so I opened this and we finished it on the porch after dinner.

Advice on how to enjoy homebrewing over the years without becoming an alcoholic.

I went the opposite direction. I had 2 kegerators that held 6 kegs each,I normally had 10 very different beers on tap. I started brewing to get drunk, then spent a week in Belgium, which totally blew my mind. The next year we spent 2 weeks traveling across Germany drinking in small town...

Advice on how to enjoy homebrewing over the years without becoming an alcoholic.

A system I used for several years was to use a number system with the ABV. I picked a number, usually around 18. I could drink 3 6% beers, or 2 8%, as long as the number stayed around 18. It actually made me aware of how much alcohol I was drinking, not just how many beers. 8 years ago health...

    What are you drinking now?

It's dinner time in France, we ate vegetarian tonight, but only because my wife's vegetable soup and the plate of white asparagus was enough to fill us up. But I did open a bottle I picked up at a Bordeaux wine fest last month, perfect for our cheese plate.

What did I cook this weekend.....

Grilled sausages and chicken last night with the neighbors/family. Finished the meal with a great Bordeaux and cheese. The sausages are chipolatas, merguez(spicy lamb), and

A a geologist I love these. As a homebrewer I'm confused, what are they used for in brewing?

This one is a little young. A few years in the cave will improve it, or not. We'll see.

    What are you drinking now?

With yesterday's fish dinner we didn't get around to cooking until today. Sauvignon blanc with pinot noir. 13 minutes from my sister in law's house. Every year she brings me a couple of bottles of Menetou-Salon. I don't know how available it is in the states but it is a fairly famous white in...

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

What defines this as a truck? Does the back end open onto a pickup type bed?

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

There are 100 mile stretches in NM with no chargers at all. In France there's a full rest area every 50 kilometers, with at least a dozen chargers. Even without the chargers I wish the USA had the same rest area situation as in France. There's a rest area every 20 kilometers, every other one...
